US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would remove some US troops from Germany and send them to Poland, during a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Washington DC. «We're going to be reducing Germany very substantially, down to about 25,000 troops, we had actually had 52,000,» Trump told reporters at the White House's Rose Garden. «Germany's paying a very small fraction of what they're supposed to be paying. They should be paying 2 percent and they're paying a little bit more than 1 percent.» «We'll probably be moving them (troops) from Germany to Poland,» added Trump. «We defend Europe. But Europe also takes tremendous advantage of the United States on trade, advantage like you wouldn't believe. So we're trying to work that out,» Trump continued. Duda's visit to Washington DC marks the first foreign leader visit to the White House since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. A total of 9,500 soldiers are expected to be withdrawn from US bases in Germany.
