Protesters picketed outside the White House in Washington DC, on Tuesday, against the signing of the trilateral peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Israel, which was announced by US President Donald Trump. The protesters could be seen marching on the streets of the US capital city, carrying Palestinian flags and placards, while also chanting against Israel. Attorney and human rights activist Huwaida Arraf addressed the crowd, saying, «Absent from this debacle of White House theatrics is any Palestinians, to represent the indigenous people of the land upon Israel has created and violently maintains its colonial state.» Yisroel Dovid Weiss, a rabbi and a representative of Neturei Karta International, added, «This is just another sorrowful thing in the long chain of Zionism. Zionism tells the world that peace will be achieved by recognising the state of Israel. We are saying that the state of Israel God does not recognise. It's a terrorist state, it's a state that is oppressing the Palestinian people, the Arabs and the Jews.» Tempers flared between pro-Palestinian protesters and a handful of pro-Israel activists, who also gathered outside the White House. The security forces managed to prevent the escalation of the tensions. Meanwhile, at the White House, the peace deal was signed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani. Trump also took part in the ceremony. The Israel-Bahrain treaty is set to establish diplomatic ties between the two countries following a previous peace deal signed between Israel and the UAE earlier this month. The agreements have triggered a backlash in parts of the Arab world including in the state of Palestine.
