More than 1,400 items from World War Two, including a smoking jacket and top hat which belonged to Adolf Hitler, are due to go up for auction in Chesapeake City, Maryland next week. The auction will also feature a photograph of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin shaking hands at the 2018 Helsinki summit, allegedly signed by both of them. «It's a powerful political piece, and first such item that we've seen signed by both political leaders,» Bill Panagopulos, the president of the auction house told Ruptly on Monday. Some of the most prized items from Alexander Historical Auctions are the original sketches of the German 'Reichsadler,' the symbolic eagle adorning many government buildings in Germany, and a helmet from Nazi general Adolf Heusinger which was stomped on by American troops. The auction will also feature a tattooing machine believed to be the same model used to tattoo Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz. «A lot of it is painful, but that's probably the reason it should be preserved. If we only preserve pretty history and good history, we forget the bad, and the bad is what helps us prevent all of this from happening all over again,» said Panagopulos. The auction is set for July 14 and 15.
