Thousands of protesters gathered at Grand Central Terminal in New York on Friday evening before taking to the Midtown's streets and subway stations, denouncing Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) increased transit fares and New York Police Department presence on the subway system. Footage shows people flooding out of Grand Central and heading to various stations. Many brought placards and shouted anti-police chants such «How do you spell racist? NYPD.» Police officers blocked several subway entrances, including major city transit hub Pennsylvania Station, while clashing with protesters on the streets, where many more arrests were made. The protest was organised by a group calling themselves the FTP Coalition.
