German human rights activist Peter Steudtner of Amnesty International, along with 9 other activists who were arrested by Turkish authorities, was seen entering court in Istanbul, Wednesday. The activists, detained on July 5, face up to 15 years in prison on charges of assisting a «terrorist organisation.» A Turkish court remanded six human rights activists in custody, including Steudtner and Turkey's Amnesty International Director Idil Eser, while releasing four others under judicial control obliging them to report to police regularly. As part of the ongoing state of emergency that has been enacted in Turkey since the 2016 coup attempt, recently extended for a fourth time, scores of workers in the education sector, media and civil servants have been laid-off and imprisoned.
