Turkey: 1,112 arrested over alleged links to US-based Fethullah Gulen
Turkish prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 1,112 people over their alleged links with the US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused of leading the attempted coup in 2016. Footage from Tuesday shows Turkish forces carrying out arrests of suspects in the Turkish city of Adana. The operation, anticipated on Sunday by Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, is one of the biggest crackdowns targeting Gulen's followers. Around 77,000 people were arrested following the failed coup in July 2016, while 130,000 lost their state jobs in the government's attempt to 'purge' state institutions from 'gulenists.' Tuesday's operations were largely carried out in the capital Ankara, with hundreds of people detained across 76 provinces, as the Ankara chief prosecutor's office confirmed.
