People waved Karoui's pictures and Tunisian flags, with Karoui later seen addressing the crowds from the stage. Karoui, a 56-year-old media business was released from detention after he had been arrested for alleged money laundering and tax fraud. He is still facing the charges. Karoui is competing with Kais Saied, who got 18,4% of the vote, while Karoui secured 15,6%. The election is the second of its kind since the 2014 adoption of the Tunisian constitution following the overthrow of former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.
