Tunisia: Protests in and outside parliament as govt. passes corruption amnesty

Protesters gathered outside Tunisia’s parliament in Tunis, Wednesday, to protest against the passing of a controversial law that would provide amnesty to politicians that had been accused of corruption under ousted leader Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. Protesters stood with placards and megaphones, chanting “this law will not pass”, with a few protesters making it into parliament, disrupting a parliamentary session. Opponents of the legislation assert that the act serves as a counter move to Tunisia’s 2011 revolution, while government officials insist that such legislation is necessary for Tunisia to move forward.
