Thousands of anti-government demonstrators took to the streets of Bangkok on Wednesday, calling for a democratic shift in the Thai monarchy. The protest symbolically began by the Democracy Monument, with activists addressing the crowd and culminated with a march towards the Government House. Several episodes of heavy confrontations with police broke out during the rally. The demonstration concluded with a peaceful sit-in demonstration in front of the Government House. One of the protesters Lee defined the sentiment of the protesters as 'hopeful.' «The reason the people showed up today is that they feel hope. Even though today may not change anything, we certainly felt that we have a lot of people who share the same agenda and same beliefs,» he said. In similar demonstrations throughout the past few months, protesters have called for the resignation of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former army general, as well for reforms to country's powerful monarchy and to the 2017 constitution that was devised after a period of military rule.
