WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris assured the public that the organisation does not consider the case of bubonic plague which broke out in Chinese Inner Mongolia a high risk during a teleconference in Geneva on Tuesday. A man from the area is in a stable condition in a hospital in Bayannur after being confirmed to be the carrier of the disease that was once the scourge of the planet. «We are monitoring the outbreaks in China and we are watching that closely, in partnership with the Chinese authorities and the Mongolian authorities. At the moment, we are not considering it high risk but we're watching it, monitoring it carefully,» stated WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris. The Bubonic plague was the cause of one of history's most fatal pandemics, the Black Death. The pandemic killed approximately 50 million worldwide in the 14th Century. Mandatory credit: UN TV
