French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his government's commitment to the two-state solution during the talks with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Wednesday. Macron was invited to the Middle East, alongside 40 other world leaders, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz. Macron was keen, before his visit to the region, to satisfy both parties, as he criticised Israel's «fait accompli» in its expansion of settlements in the occupied territories, and at the same time, promised to give a speech condemning anti-Semitism in front of the Yad Vashem monument.
