Spain: Catalan leaders arrive for trial over 2017 independence bid
Catalan separatist leaders and activists arrived at the Spanish Supreme Court in Madrid on Tuesday, ahead of a trial over their roles in the 2017 independence bid. Former Catalan vice president Oriol Junqueras, former interior minister Joaquim Forn, former president of the Catalan parliament Carme Forcadell are among the 12 political leaders and activists standing trial for their part in the referendum and subsequent push for independence from Spain. The 12 accused are facing charges including rebellion, sedition and the misuse of public funds. Those accused of rebellion and misuse of public funds are facing prison terms of up to 25 years.
