Iraq: Shrine erected where Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani was assassinated

A temporary shrine to Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani and other Iranian-backed militia leaders was erected at the place where they were assassinated in a US drone strike, in footage filmed on Sunday. Pictures of Soleimani and Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, among others, are hanging from a roadside wall on the perimeter of Baghdad International Airport. The wall and the road are damaged and discoloured, presumably from the explosion. Another shrine is also present inside the airport. Soleimani and his Iraqi allies were killed in an airstrike ordered by US President Donald Trump on January 3. Iran responded with missile attacks on US bases in Iraq shortly after his burial.
