Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Pope Francis in the Vatican on Monday, during a two-day visit to Italy. A demonstration took place in Rome to protest against the leader's visit. Erdogan was accompanied by his wife Emine and his daughter Esra, as well as Esra's husband Turkish Energy Minister Berat Albayrak. Erdogan and the Pope exchanged gifts and shook hands as part of the meeting ceremony. The leaders were expected to talk about bilateral relations, the latest developments in Jerusalem, the situation in Syria and the fight against terrorism, Islamophobia and xenophobia.
