Germany: Libyan ceasefire and embargo 'constantly violated on the ground' — Italian FM Di Maio

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio called for a «harmonised coherent response on the part of the international community as a whole» due to a «persistent gap between diplomatic rhetoric and behaviours and facts on the ground» in Libya, during the third and final day of the 56th Munich Security Conference on Sunday. The Berlin conference marked a crucial step on what is expected to be a long and difficult path with pitfalls, whose conclusion will require not only the forefront commitment of the Libyans themselves but also a harmonised and coherent response on the part of the international community as a whole,» he said, referring to the January 21 conference on Libya in Berlin. «Now the time has come to fill the persistent gap between diplomatic rhetoric and behaviours and facts on the ground. Unfortunately, with the ceasefire and the international embargo being constantly violated on the ground, the history unfolding in Libya today profoundly differs from the one written in Berlin.» The Munich Security Conference took place between 14 and 16 February. Major issues on the agenda concerned security issues in the Middle East, North Africa, the Arctic and the Balkan region, energy security, cybersecurity, arms control, health and trade.
