German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated this Wednesday that the government is expecting a conclusion to talks with airline Lufthansa and a decision regarding its requested bailout soon. The airline has asked for nearly 9 billion Euros ($9.9 billion) in rescue funds to avert bankruptcy, as the firm is currently burning through its cash reserves amid the near standstill in flight traffic. The chancellor stressed the need for unity among global actors to defeat the recession brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and affirmed Germany's commitment to overseas aid that will assist developing nations. The press conference followed a meeting with leaders from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and other supranational organizations.
