Mourners rallied in mass in Place de la Republique in Paris on Sunday to pay their homage to to Samuel Paty, the teacher who was decapitated in what authorities call a terror attack, near the capital on Friday night. The imam of Drancy, Hassen Chalghoumi, shared his comments about the killing, saying that «secularism is the solution.» «We have to teach our youth. That's the first thing [to do], it is education, that parents teach what secularism means, what freedom means. You can't murder someone because of a drawing (caricature). It's a shame. It's a shame. We can have different opinions, we can disagree, but never resort to violence, never to hatred,» he continued. Other mourners also shared their reactions, with a local saying, «Today we have before us a very organised, very structured political Islamist movement, which is gradually destroying our societies. So it is necessary to be united and to express it.» On Friday, 47-year-old history teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded outside his school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, northwest of Paris. The teacher had recently shown caricatures of Islam's Prophet Muhammad to his students during a discussion on freedom of speech.
