Ecuador: Police deploy tear gas as unrest continues in Quito

Police were seen facing off with protesters and launching canisters of tear gas in an attempt to controls the crowds in Quito on Tuesday, as protests against the elimination of fuel subsidies announced by the Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno continued. Armoured Police vehicles can be seen on the streets of the Ecuadorian capital, while police officers deploy tear gas. One officer can be seen bandaging his leg. Hours earlier, Moreno announced that his government would move from the capital Quito to Guayaquil due to mass demonstrations, which he blamed on ex-president Rafael Correa and his Venezuelan ally Nicolas Maduro during a speech from Guayaquil on Monday. Ecuador has experience five days of violent unrest over economic measures introduced by President Lenin Moreno. Principally, it proposes the elimination of the fuel subsidies, which have been in place since the 1970s.
