Canada: Blizzard buries Newfoundland after record-breaking snowfall

18 января 2020 г. 18:36

Record-breaking snowfall paralysed the Newfoundland region, prompting local authorities to extend a state of emergency declared on Friday. Snow was half-way up the doorway at one home in the region's capital St John's on Saturday. The blizzard and strong winds buried cars and formed snowdrifts in the road. St John's international airport as well as the businesses remain closed as a result of the weather event. The Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Regan said he may call in military reservists, but the immediate priority remains snow removal from the main roads.
