Hundreds of health care workers took to the streets of Sao Paulo on Friday to honour their colleagues who died with coronavirus and demonstrate against the government's handling of the crisis. Protesters could be seen chanting and marching while holding white balloons and dressed collectively in protective gear, with red crosses printed on the front. Many healthcare workers have said that a lack of PPE has been partly to blame for the deaths amongst co-workers. «Today the goal is to pay tribute to health care workers that we have sadly lost during coronavirus, and [express] how badly Sao Paulo government is handling the situation with workers, no testing, no care for our worker's rights. So it's a tribute to the heroes. We want heroes, but alive, not dead. Our people are suffering a lot,» said, Cleonice, Union leader, as the protesters gathered outside Sao Paulo's Union of Public Health Workers building. At least 50 health care workers and state health workers have died with the virus, according to a survey by the SindSaude-SP Union. Brazil has been one of the hardest hit countries by coronavirus.
