Rio de Janeiro's sanitation workers were out in full force on Tuesday as they were tasked with disinfecting the city's streets in an attempt to halt the spread of coronavirus. Footage highlights the lengths government workers went to in an attempt to help rid the city of the virus. Workers can also be seen receiving applause from locals as they go about their business. Brazil had a relatively late start in suffering from a COVID-19 outbreak, but now has the third-most cases in the world, only the US and Russia have more confirmed cases. There have been 26,665 confirmed cases in the state of Rio de Janeiro alone and 2,852 deaths. A ban on foreign air travel was implemented on March 27, and since then, most state governors have imposed quarantines on their regions. Brazil has recorded 257,396 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began. Thus far, 16,941 people have died nationwide after contracting the virus, according to data complied by John Hopkins University.
